JOB DESCRIPTION

Community Care Assistant Job Description

Aim and Purpose

To provide quality service to vulnerable elderly service users with physical disabilities and in accordance with the care plan within agreed time scales. To assist service users who need help with getting up in the morning, dressing, undressing, washing, bathing, continence care, assistance with food and fluids, and providing personal care for vulnerable service users in the safety and comfort of their home (domiciliary).

Main responsibilities:
To help service users with mobility problems and other physical disabilities, including incontinence; help in use and care of aids and personal equipment.
Assistance with full personal care.
Help to ensure that the preparation and serving of food meet the required standards, and within a timely manner.
Complying with the care plan to ensure the safety of the Service User at all times.
To comply with all Risk Assessments as detailed in the Care Plan folder.
Work within the guidelines of Health and Safety procedures as per Carer’s Handbook.
To be punctual and give due notice to the line manager if you are unavailable to carry out your duties.
Observe and report any changes in the physical or mental conditions of the service users to the senior/ supervisor without delay.
Report to the Supervisor and record any accidents in the accident book to ensure the safety of the Service Users.
To complete daily care plans, recording all interventions and actions relating to each service user.
Be aware of the history of the service user, as much as reasonably practicable, as briefed by supervisor.
Respect the Privacy, dignity and maintain rights of service users
Respect the confidentiality of information relating to service users and their families.
Ensure the safety and security of the Service User’s property.
To ensure that all Company policies and procedures are followed at all times.
To carry out any other tasks that may reasonably be assigned to you by Senior Staff.

Requirements:
Develop and maintain a good working relationship with the Service User.
Be familiar with and work in accordance with The Company’s stated aims and objectives, together with their agreed policies and procedures.
To encourage independence of the Service User within a health and safety environment.
Follow The Company’s dress code at all times.
To participate in any in-house or external training activities.
To attend staff meetings, appraisals and supervision.
To be familiar with Company’s Policies and Procedures, with special reference to Abuse and Anti-Discriminatory Practice.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Education and Qualification: A minimum of NVQ Level 2 in Health and social Care is desirable. If an NVQ qualification is not held, staff must complete the Care Certificate within 6 months of joining the Home.

Experience: Minimum of one-year experience working with elderly service users is desirable.

Skills required are:
Ability to work according to Care Plans
Good verbal and written skills
Good observational skills
Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationship.

Knowledge: A basic knowledge in the following areas would be desirable:
Health and Safety
Manual Handling
Fire safety
Abuse
Vulnerable adult Protection Procedures
Anti-discriminatory practice.
Understanding of working in a Multicultural environment.

All staff must attend training organised by the Old Roselyon Manor Nursing Home to enable them to carry out their duties.
