We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Support Workers to provide personalised care and support to individuals with autism, ADHD, complex post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and learning disabilities within their own homes. As a Support Worker, you will play a crucial role in empowering individuals to live as independently as possible while promoting their well-being and safety. You will assist with day-to-day activities, offering emotional and practical support tailored to each individual’s needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Personal Care & Support: Assist individuals with personal care tasks such as dressing, grooming, and maintaining hygiene routines, ensuring dignity and respect at all times.
Promote Independence: Empower individuals to live as independently as possible by encouraging and supporting them in daily tasks and activities.
Emotional and Practical Support: Provide emotional support, manage challenging behaviours, and create a positive and safe environment for individuals to thrive in.
Development of Life Skills: Support with the development of skills that foster independence, such as cooking, budgeting, and managing appointments.
Promote Well-being: Support individuals in maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including encouraging regular exercise, healthy eating, and promoting mental health.
Advocacy: Act as an advocate for the individuals, ensuring their voice is heard and respected, and ensuring their rights are upheld in all aspects of daily life.
Social & Community Integration: Support individuals in engaging with their local community, participating in social activities, and building meaningful relationships.
Maintain Records: Accurately record and report on the progress and development of individuals, including any concerns or changes in their health or well-being.
Collaboration with Families & Professionals: Work closely with families, healthcare professionals, and other support workers to ensure the needs of the individual are met in a holistic and consistent manner.
Key Requirements:
Previous experience in a similar role supporting individuals with autism, ADHD, PTSD, or learning disabilities is desirable.
A patient, compassionate, and understanding approach to supporting individuals with complex needs.
Ability to promote independence and provide tailored support to meet individual needs.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Flexibility to work a range of shifts, including evenings and weekends.
Ability to manage challenging behaviours in a calm and positive manner.
A strong understanding of safeguarding and health & safety protocols.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
A valid DBS check (Disclosure and Barring Service) is required.
A relevant qualification in health & social care (e.g., NVQ Level 2 or 3) would be an advantage.
Desirable Skills:
Experience in supporting individuals with complex mental health needs, PTSD, or trauma.
Knowledge and understanding of behaviour management techniques.
Full UK driver’s license (if transport is required for role-related activities).
