You will not be employed by or carry out work for Humans Cornwall; we have a dedicated team to help identify private personal assistants for care and support. These roles are personally assisting somebody to achieve their goals, gain independence and/or manage their daily lives; These will be self-funded by the family or person, or they may receive a support from elsewhere. *

Location: St Austell

You will be working alone or with others who have been working with the same gentleman for many years. This will be within the individuals own home along with possible periods of time working out and about. Full training will be given and though not essential some previous care experience maybe a benefit.

Support required: This rewarding role will include all aspects of care and the day-to-day needs relating to someone living with a spinal injury. The person leads an active and positive life and as such requires someone with high standards in respect of maintaining a home, good communication skills and a good etiquette in all other aspects of life.

Personal Care:

Washing, bathing, and dressing
Getting in and out of bed
Bladder and bowel management
Personal hygiene and grooming

Domestic duties:

Shopping
Cooking and serving meals
Preparing drinks
Housework including laundry, dusting, cleaning, and vacuuming

Day to day support:

Driving – Automatic vehicle
Support with paperwork
Accompanying the client to social engagements or on holiday
Looking after pets (Not applicable at present)
Maintenance of equipment

Required skills and qualifications:

Full UK or International driving licence
Fluent English language
DBS required (paid for by client)

Hourly rate of pay: £14.00 per hour PAYE plus enrolment in a NEST Pension scheme if applicable. Other possible enhancements.

Hours per week: 25 with the possibility of more hours in future

Schedule:

Monday: 3pm – 6pm

Wednesday: 7am – 6pm

Friday: 7am – 6pm

NB The longer working days will include some breaks and there may be some slight amendments to the working arrangements above. There may also be the possibility of additional work either on site or on an on-call basis, so some flexibility may be needed. You should also be willing to attend a course in spinal injury care (paid for by the client).

Essential:

A proactive and caring approach; willing to adapt to the needs of the person you are supporting.
Good communication skills along with a sense of humour.

Desirable:

Level 2 or 3 in Adult Social Care or willing to undertake such training
Offers of employment may be subject to DBS checks & referencing. This role can start on a self-employed basis, so please ensure you have proof of employment status and public liability insurance. However, please be aware the role will eventually need to be on a PAYE basis.
