“I would like to nominate Cat, a dedicated carer at The Green, for Care Home Worker of the year. Despite facing her own health challenges, Cat consistently demonstrates remarkable commitment and compassion in her role. She works tirelessly to keep the residents entertained and engaged, often on a very tight budget, bringing energy, warmth, and joy to everyone she cares for.
One particular moment truly highlighted Cat’s extraordinary kindness and empathy. During an evening event at the home featuring a live musician, I witnessed Cat approach an elderly resident living with severe dementia. Without hesitation, Cat gently knelt down beside her, cupping the lady’s face in her hands and speaking softly into her ear. The resident’s eyes filled with tears, a deeply moving response that really touched me. When I later asked Cat what she had said, she told me simply that she had told the lady she was loved.
This small but profound act of kindness perfectly encapsulates the spirit of care that Cat embodies every day. She goes above and beyond to create moments of connection and comfort, reminding residents of their dignity and worth. Her ability to bring light and love into the lives of those she supports, despite the challenges she faces herself, is truly inspiring.
Cat is a shining example of what it means to be a carer. Her compassion, dedication, and heartfelt approach make her more than deserving of recognition through the Proud to Care Award.”
