About the role

Support Worker – Supported Living (Ages 16–65)
Purpose of the Role
Support Workers play a vital role in enabling people aged 16–65 to live safely, independently, and meaningfully within supported living settings. The role focuses on providing person‑centred, trauma‑informed support that promotes choice, dignity, and wellbeing. Support Workers help individuals develop life skills, build confidence, and access opportunities that enhance their quality of life.

Key Responsibilities

Person‑Centred Support
- Build positive, trusting relationships with the people you support.
- Provide tailored support based on individual needs, strengths, and aspirations.
- Encourage independence by supporting daily living skills such as cooking, cleaning, budgeting, and personal care (where required).
- Promote choice, control, and active participation in all aspects of daily life.

Safety, Wellbeing & Safeguarding
- Maintain a safe, supportive environment in line with safeguarding legislation and organisational policies.
- Recognise and report concerns promptly, following safeguarding and whistleblowing procedures.
- Support individuals to manage risks positively while maintaining their autonomy.
- Contribute to safety planning, behaviour support plans, and risk assessments.

Health & Emotional Support
- Support people to attend health appointments and follow health‑related guidance.
- Promote emotional wellbeing through active listening, reassurance, and positive encouragement.
- Work in a trauma‑informed way, understanding how past experiences may influence current behaviour and needs.

Community Inclusion
- Support individuals to access education, employment, volunteering, and social opportunities.
- Encourage meaningful community participation and reduce social isolation.
- Promote independence in travel and community navigation where appropriate.

Record Keeping & Professional Practice
- Maintain accurate, timely records including daily notes, incident reports, and support plans.
- Follow organisational policies, regulatory standards, and best‑practice guidance.
- Work collaboratively with families, professionals, and external agencies.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional boundaries at all times.

Teamwork & Service Quality
- Contribute to a positive team culture built on respect, communication, and shared responsibility.
- Participate in team meetings, supervisions, and training to continuously develop skills.
- Support the service to meet CQC/OFSTED standards and deliver high‑quality care.
- Be flexible and responsive to the needs of the service, including occasional lone working or shift changes.

- Strong communication skills and the ability to adapt to different needs.
- Reliable, proactive, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Understanding of safeguarding, professional boundaries, and confidentiality.
- Willingness to learn and develop through training and reflective practice.

Experience & Requirements
- Experience in health or social care is helpful but not always essential — values and attitude are key.
- Knowledge of learning disabilities, autism, mental health, or trauma‑informed practice is an advantage.
- Ability to work shifts including evenings, weekends, and sleep‑ins (if required).
- Enhanced DBS check required.
