About the role

The role of a Care Worker involves providing day-to-day care and support for vulnerable individuals who may struggle with mental health conditions, learning disabilities, autism, or complex behavioural needs. The role involves assisting with personal care, daily routines, emotional wellbeing, and community activities, while promoting dignity, choice, and safeguarding at all times. The role of a Care Worker is to eencourage independence, and ensure individuals can participate fully in everyday life.

Applicants must be compassionate, reliable, and committed to person-centred care, reflecting our values of dignity, respect and empowerment. We expect a positive attitude, good communication, professionalism, and a willingness to learn. A driving licence, flexibility for shifts, and the ability to follow care plans and safeguarding procedures are essential

You will work alongside and report to a Shift Lead who oversees the service and the Services Coordinators who oversees the region.

Shifts are typically 10 - 12 hours long depending on the support needs of the individula, with a two hour break.

Shifts types include day shifts, waking nights and sleep-ins.

Prior experience in a similar role is preferred, but not mandatory as full training is provided.

A typical day

The day usually begins with helping individuals with their morning routine, such as personal care, dressing, breakfast, and preparing for planned activities. Care workers support people to follow their care plans, encouraging independence and choice in everyday tasks.

Throughout the day, they may assist with medication prompts, attending appointments, completing household tasks, and engaging in community or social activities. Care workers also provide reassurance, help individuals manage anxiety or distress, and use positive behaviour support strategies when needed.

Regular monitoring, record keeping, and communication with colleagues and professionals are also part of the role to ensure safe, consistent care.

Overall, each day focuses on promoting wellbeing, safety, dignity, and improving quality of life for the individuals being supported.

Key Responsibilities

– Provide day-to-day personal care, including support with washing, dressing, and hygiene

– Assist with daily living tasks such as meal preparation, cleaning, and maintaining a safe environment

– Promote independence, dignity, and choice in all aspects of care

– Offer emotional support and reassurance to individuals experiencing anxiety, distress, or challenging behaviour

– Follow individual care plans, risk assessments, and Positive Behaviour Support strategies

– Support individuals to access community activities, appointments, and social opportunities

– Monitor wellbeing and report any changes in physical or mental health to senior staff or professionals

– Maintain accurate daily records and documentation in line with policies

– Safeguard vulnerable individuals by recognising and reporting concerns or abuse

– Work collaboratively with families, healthcare professionals, and multidisciplinary teams
