Key details
About the role
Our Shared Lives Carers host adults across the west country who have mid level additional support needs and are looking for a supported placement. Using a spare room in their own home, our carers host an adult, inviting them into their family life and providing person-centred support.
The support you offer could either be short term or long term.
Long term: The person becomes part of your household, living with you full-time and becoming an integral part of your family. This arrangement is ideal for those seeking ongoing care, companionship, and stability in a nurturing home environment.
Short term: You'll provide respite care through overnight stays, weekend visits, or short-term placements lasting a week or more. This support gives families or full-time carers a break, while offering individuals a change of scenery and engagement in a supportive home.
To apply to be a Shared Lives Carer, you must have:
- A spare room
- Care experience or transferrable skills
- The right to work in the UK
What we offer our staff
A typical day
A typical day for a Shared Lives Carer is not typical at all!
Blending everyday home life with person-centred care, our carer’s everyday is a mix of family household activities with specific person-tailored care unique to the person supported. Households may go for days out, or spend time apart as the person supported joins day care or volunteering, or spends time with family. A Shared Lives Carer may support a person with medication, cooking meals, personal care and accessing the community.
Key Responsibilities
Provide care for an adult with additional needs
Provide a spare room
Provide care and support for everyday activities like travel, cooking and accessing community
Invite an adult with support needs into your home life
Carers must be DBS checked, First Aid trained and insured
