About the role


This is for a mental health support worker in a residential care home in Newquay.
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Support Worker to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in providing high-quality care and support to individuals in a residential care settings. This position requires a commitment to enhancing the quality of life for our clients, ensuring their safety, dignity, and well-being. The preferred applicant will have a knowledge of mental health and be able to provide emotional support, promote independence and be self motivated.

Responsibilities

Assist clients with daily living activities such as prompting personal care, providing options for activities, promoting living skills and meal preparation.
Provide companionship and emotional support to clients, fostering a positive environment.
Administer medication as prescribed and monitor client health conditions.
Implement behaviour management strategies to support clients with diverse needs.
Maintain accurate records of client progress and report any changes to the care team.
Drive clients to appointments or social activities as required.
Ensure a clean and safe living environment for clients by performing housekeeping duties and encouraging clients to learn skills in this area.
Support clients to attend appointments and foster beneficial relationships with other professionals.
This role will require 1 sleep-in shift per week. (more available to cover holidays)
Skills

Experience in supported living or residential mental health settings is highly desirable.
Proficiency in first aid, medication administration, safeguarding and food hygiene.
Knowledge of mental health and behaviour management strategies.
Strong communication skills with the ability to build rapport with clients and their families.
A valid driving licence is preferred for transporting clients when necessary.
Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to help others are essential qualities for this role.
A desire to be creative and inspired when improving the daily lives of people in our care.
Confidence and competence to work alone and assume responsibility.

Job Types: Full-time/part-time. One year contract with possibility to extend. Days, Evenings, weekends and Sleep-ins essential.

A typical day

Start 8am-opening up ensuring all checks are done, get breakfast out, start meds, clean bathrooms, assist clients with laundry and rooms. Clean of communal areas and bathrooms. Attend appointments/social inclusion or activities. Prepare and serve lunch, keep the kitchen clean, continue laundry, do meds. Prepare dinner, do meds, keep the house clean, carry out any checks as required-fire, H&S, meds counts. Close down at 10pm and sleep-in from 10pm to 8am.
Spend time with residents through the day, providing company, emotional support and motivation.
