About the role

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Support Worker to help individuals live their lives as independently as possible. In this role, you will provide person-centred support tailored to each individual’s needs, promoting choice, dignity, and independence. You will assist with daily living activities, emotional wellbeing, and community engagement, empowering individuals to build confidence, develop life skills, and achieve their personal goals. The ideal candidate will be patient, reliable, and committed to making a positive difference in people’s lives.

A typical day

A typical day for a Support Worker at APRA Care is varied, rewarding, and centred around the needs of the individuals you support. Your day may start by helping individuals with their morning routines, such as personal care, getting dressed, preparing breakfast, and planning their day. You will offer encouragement and emotional support, helping them build confidence and independence.

Throughout the day, you may support individuals to attend appointments, go shopping, take part in community activities, or enjoy hobbies and social time. You will assist with practical tasks such as meal preparation, light household duties, and managing daily routines, always encouraging individuals to do as much as they can for themselves.

You will also spend time listening, chatting, and building positive relationships, ensuring each person feels respected, valued, and safe. At the end of your shift, you will update records, communicate with colleagues, and ensure a smooth handover so that care remains consistent and person-centred.

You will provide person-centred care that respects each individual’s choices, dignity, and rights, while supporting their physical, emotional, and social wellbeing. This role requires compassion, patience, and professionalism, ensuring that every person receives high-quality support tailored to their unique needs and goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide person-centred support in line with individual care plans

Promote independence, choice, and dignity at all times

Assist with daily living activities such as personal care, meal preparation, and household tasks

Support individuals to access the community, attend appointments, and take part in social activities

Encourage and support individuals to develop life skills and confidence

Provide emotional support and companionship

Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and reports

Follow safeguarding policies and report any concerns promptly

Support medication in line with training and company policies (if required)

Communicate effectively with individuals, families, and the wider care team

Ensure a safe, clean, and supportive environment
