What we offer our staff
A typical day
I’m not sure that there is a typical night!! Often half the people who live here tucked up in bed, one or two walking about chatting to you and settling later when they are ready, another few watching television in the sitting room, glad of your company. There should be time to enjoy every aspect of this and let people go to bed when they want to. You will be able to make yourself and others, drinks and snacks and plan times when you might fit in your cleaning. There will be 3 checking times and bells to answer in between. Everyone has a sensor alarm in their room and as they get out of bed this will sound a bell. If possible you will attend to them quickly as they may be confused and be grateful for your help.
Key Responsibilities
Your job will be caring for 15 people at night who may or may not sleep. You will be helping them to have the best sleep possible, by listening their worries, comforting them and helping them to settle. You may find some will stay up to watch TV and you can sit with them. You can prepare drinks and snacks for people who may not have eaten well during the day. You will be required to take a good handover before starting work and to report and record your care checks during the night. There will be some cleaning duties which are difficult to do during the day, but no criticism if the night work has meant there was no time.
About Coombe House
On a warm day, you’ll find us in the garden, with our dogs (we are registered with the Cinnamon Trust), or feeding our chickens, picking apples in the orchard. We have no set routine anyone must follow, every day is different. Our people can make choices – when to get up and when to go to bed, what to wear, where to sit, what to do to pass the time of day, where to eat meals, what to eat, which visitors they do or don’t want to see, which daily paper they might like to read. The doors of our home aren’t locked and our beautiful gardens are there to enjoy.
We were thrilled to receive an Outstanding from CQC in 2018.
